About Nick Griffiths
Who is Nick Griffiths?
Nick Griffiths is the Managing Director and owner of Industrial Cooling Equipment Ltd (ICE), a role he has held since 2011. Born in Liverpool, Nick’s journey to business leadership has been anything but conventional. After attending New Heys Comprehensive, where he faced some challenges but ultimately excelled in his GCSEs, Nick took on a variety of roles before finding his true calling in refrigeration and air conditioning.
At 16, Nick briefly worked as a butcher at Tesco, before joining ICE as an Apprentice Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Engineer in 2001. His father, who was a Director at ICE, provided early guidance, and Nick was fortunate to learn from some of the industry’s top engineers. He earned his City & Guilds Level 2 and 3 qualifications at the City of Liverpool College, setting a solid foundation for his future career.
Nick’s rapid rise within ICE began early when he was thrust into senior roles due to departures of key team members. By just 21, he had become a senior engineer, responsible for handling the company’s major pharmaceutical clients during a time when temperature control for pharma products became increasingly critical. His growing expertise saw him become a commissioning engineer, traveling across the UK, Ireland, and Europe, ensuring the success of ICE’s projects.
In 2008, Nick was promoted to Service Manager, overseeing the Service Department. However, the most significant change in his career came in 2011, when, at just 26 years old, he became the sole Director of ICE following the passing of his father to Motor Neurone Disease. Despite having no formal business qualifications, Nick’s ambition, work ethic, and determination allowed him to transform a challenging personal situation into an opportunity for growth and success.
Under Nick’s leadership, ICE has grown exponentially. The company has consistently achieved year-on-year increases in sales, profits, workforce, and net worth. Notably, in 2015, ICE was awarded BID Business of the Year, and in 2019 and 2023, the company won Family Business of the Year at the Halton Business Awards.
Looking forward, Nick envisions growing ICE into a £10 million turnover business through a combination of strategic acquisitions and organic growth. Outside of work, Nick enjoys spending time with his wife, Nicola, and their two children, and has a passion for Thai boxing, having fought at a professional level.
In 2025, Nick was honoured with the prestigious Entrepreneur of the Year award at the Halton Business Awards, a testament to over 15 years of dedication and perseverance in building ICE into the dynamic company it is today. The recognition not only celebrated his business achievements but also highlighted the resilience and vision that have defined his entrepreneurial journey.
Nick’s journey reflects a commitment to both his family and the business, and his leadership continues to shape the future of ICE Ltd.
