Our client, Howdens Joinery is the UK’s largest manufacturer and supplier of fitted kitchens, appliances and joinery products to trade professionals.

In 2018, ICE designed and built a walk in Freezer on the site and have held the maintenance contract since.

Scope of work

The site receives two visits per annum to the walk in Freezer. In March 2023, one of the annual maintenance visits was due and ICE attended site to carryout the works.

The works were booked in by our Service Dept and based locally to our office in Runcorn,  the site is just short drive so response times are exceptional.

How ICE helped

After signing in onsite and obtaining the relevant permits, our engineers proceeded to the work area.

As part of our maintenance plans, all systems are asset tagged with a unique number and labelled with F Gas Stickers recording the refrigerant type, weight and the CO2 equivalent in tonnes of the refrigerant. As this was an existing contract, all information was already detailed on our system so our engineer could begin to work through the tailored digital check sheets for the system on their tablets.

A full maintenance check was then carried, with our engineers cleaning the outdoor condenser coil and systems casings using appropriate fluids. We then proceeded to check running pressures and superheats via the digital controller on the Danfoss Optima Plus condensing unit, before recording air on and off temperatures along with the running amps of fans and defrost heaters comparing them to overloads and past readings.

The system was fully leak checked and a check certificate was produced and signed off by our engineers.

Our engineer noticed a slight build-up of ice on the indoor evaporator, so the system was put through a few defrosts to ensure the coil was completely defrosted and free from ice. Drains were then checked and the engineer completed the digital report for the system grading the condition score as excellent.

Results

The works were completed within a couple of hours and the system was left running and working efficiently and the works were signed off by the client. Within days of the visit, the client received their digital pack containing a report for the system including leak check certificate and full refrigerant asset list.
